Frequently Asked Questions
How much does it cost to participate in Bike to Work Week?
Nothing! Thank you to the support of our community partners all aspects of the event are 100% free!
Are walkers, rollerbladers, bus riders or those travelling by means other than driving alone counted?
No. Bike to Work Week is focused solely on cycling.
How big is my team?
Your team size is not the number of cyclists participating but rather the total number of people in your workplace.
For really large employers (over 50 staff) you may break into smaller teams and then count the total staff from your area. For example, a large government building should have several team leaders and break into floors or departments.
This structure encourages more people to join a team, because the more participants, the higher the rate of participation!
Do I include all of the names of my team members in my registration?
No. You do not need to add individual names to your team on the web. Keep track of who cycled each day and report these numbers on-line for your team - daily or at the end of the week.
We do need the names and contact information of any team members who want to be included in the draw for prizes but who cannot make it to the Celebration Stations. Please send those in by Thursday evening.
What if none of my co-workers want to ride? Can I participate even if I’m the only person in my workplace who rides to work?
Yes! Anyone who rides to work can be part of Bike To Work Week. You need comraderie more than anyone! Stop by the celebration stations each morning and come meet other riders at the wrap-up event. Just sign up your workplace as a team and then make sure you get your name in for the draw prizes. Even if you can’t get your co-workers to help you win the team prize, you will be eligible for the draw prizes.
Where can I get T-shirts
T-shirts can be picked up at the Cowichan Green Community office at 181 Station Street. Free T-shirts are available to all team leaders and community partners, plus anyone who comes out to ride for the launch. Get one for yourself and consider leaving a donation for it. The main thing is to get them out there and to see them on the roads! They can also be obtained by contacting us at cowichan@biketowork.ca.
How do the Prizes work?
There are three ways to win prizes:
- Draw Prizes: Wrap-Up Event draw at City Square, Friday, June 1st, 3:00pm to 5:30pm. Names will be drawn from entries at the Celebration Stations and from names submitted by team leaders for all participants.
- Team Prizes: Participation rate. The top team in each employer category will get dinner out at Just Jakes/Craig Street Brew Pub (ties decided by a draw). Participation rates are based on the number of cyclists at work each day in comparison to the number of workers at work each day.
- Bike Prizes: Last but not least, we will have a grand prize draw for three bikes, generously donated by Cycle Therapy, Cowichan Cycles, and Experience Cycling. This draw is open to anyone. Entry forms can be filled out at Cycle Therapy, Cowichan Cycles, Experience Cycling, The Cowichan News Leader Pictorial or Cowichan Green Community.
